Antim: The Final Truth Review
With his first scene, director Mahesh Manjrekar sets the stage for a rebellious gangster story, when Rahulya rushes to save his poor father Satya (Sachin Khedekar), who is being beaten up by an unscrupulous land mafia.
The same man has also taken away his ancestral farming land. What follows is Rahul’s quick transformation from an unemployed youth to a dreaded gangster, as Nanya Bhai (Upendra Limaye), one of Pune’s most influential gangsters, subdues him.
But there is a problem. Inspector Rajveer Singh (Salman Khan), who knows how and when to use brains and persistence to rid the city of every malice – from rowdy rapists and power-hungry politicians to gun-wielding goons.
It’s a premise that’s designed to be a massive entertainer with plenty of room for massive action. But it has more dialogue than dishoom-dishoom and it often disrupts the pace of the story. Thank God,
There is a big plot twist in the first half itself that helps build and maintain the momentum for the all-important face-off in the second half. Set pre-dominantly in a Marathi domain, Manjrekar deftly captures the flavor of rural and urban Maharashtra with compelling cinematography by Karan Rawat,
Which is marked by wide-angle shots showing the city’s continuing development. This has been further strengthened by casting several Marathi actors in important character roles. Nevertheless, the film suffers from too many characters and frequent conflicts that prolong the runtime.
Also, there are about four songs that sound absolutely terrific and there is no dearth of melody in them.
Salman Khan is back in his cop avatar and this time as a fearless Sardar. It is easy for Salman to portray a policeman,
Because he plays in the gallery, tears his shirt and beats up gangsters. Aayush Sharma gets the right look with his sculpted body and makes a sincere effort to match Bhai’s mojo. The actor has certainly come a long way from his debut.
But the overall writing of the film could have been tighter, less melodramatic and didactic. His chemistry with debutante Mahima Makwana, who plays his love interest Manda, is quite bland, and often a nod to the pace of the film.
With (a little too much) intense action and drama, “Antiem: The Final Truth” checks a few boxes for mass entertainment. It also throws light on the issue of land grabbing by mafia dons who successfully manage to break the law,
Because they often shake hands with politicians. So, if you are a fan of old-fashioned Bollywood movies that have a ton of everything then Antiem: The Final Truth could be your kind of film.
