From a full messaging service to adjusting the background blur on any photo, Google has added several features to its gallery app Google Photos. Here’s a quick recap of some of the new features in Google Photos.
When I want to show a photo to my friends, I simply share it by creating a link, Instagram, Facebook or any other social networking platform. I don’t always want to get out of the app and share it with others for security. This chat feature allows you to stay in the Photos app and share it with others in a private window with any contact, even if they’re not using the app.
Just open your Google Photos app, if you don’t have it just download it from the Play store. Now select the photo you want to share and click share. You will get all your contacts or you can search by their phone number and e-mail ID. Simply click submit after selecting the contact. This will create a chat thread that is your private space to chat, so you can exchange photos, comments, videos, etc.
There is a limit of 20.00 photos but I’m sure you will never reach that limit.
2. I feel lucky
Remember I’m feeling lucky button on Google search?
Well, it’s back on Google Photo again. What it does is randomly selects photos and videos from your library depending on a certain type or location. Just long press the Google Photos icon in the menu and tap I’m feeling lucky on iOS and Feel Lucky on Android.
You’ll be taken to a collection of photos and videos from your gallery at a specific time. You can add shortcuts by dragging the Feel Lucky tab from the menu to the home screen.
3. Add a partner account
You can share all your pictures with someone you choose. To share your library with one person, select share from the bottom, then choose another share, then click Set of Shared Libraries and get started. The person you share with must have a Google account.
So you have the option to share all your pictures or pictures of a specific person. You can also choose to share photos after a selected date. From the menu, select Manage your Library and Add a Partner Account. Tap Next and then Send Invitation. There are two notes sorry for keeping you waiting. For now, I can only use it in Android 10, and the group face selection isn’t perfect, it’s AI, after all. You can also go to the share menu to accept the invitation to share the library.
In case you want to stop sharing your library, you can tap on your partner’s name in the sharing menu and choose to stop sharing your library.
4. Remove Geolocation of Images
There is a way to disable this feature whenever you share your image via a link. All you have to do is open the menu from the top left corner and click on settings and scroll down to remove Geolocation ( from photo you share by link but not by other means).
This is simply enabling the feature. Most of us ignore this but I think it’s better to turn it on,
5. Google Lens Integration
I always underestimate the use Google Lens until recently when I had to check the product details in a musical instrument store and after looking at the components I didn’t buy it.
To use this feature, simply select a photo from Photos and click the lens icon at the bottom. It will try to auto detect words, products and food if it doesn’t auto detect you can manually choose the theme set point. For example if its barcode it will detect products and show you similar products, If you select a text you will google search or translate those words.
7. For you
It’s not such a feature but it has enormous possibilities, I couldn’t leave it off the list and I took it seriously as I wrote this. So you can access it from the end of the library. When you click on it, you will have four options. If you want to be a little more organized, create an album by manually selecting photos.
There is also a movie option in case you want to glue some pictures and videos together. I usually use Kinemaster a lot for this, but I thought this could easily replace that for me. You can choose the length of each photo and add custom music to the photo. Pretty neat, right?. There is a collage feature available as well! simply helps you to have a photo collage. You can edit the collage and draw on it. Finally, there is an animation option that creates GIFs for selected photos.
Aren’t these reasons enough to stop using other Gallery apps? I’m sure you will because I just can’t stop using it. It has added more than simply a gallery app and it spans across platforms. You can use it on iOS and Android. I’ll have fun using these, I’ll keep adding more to this list, so keep looking.
