Addressing a press conference with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Qaira in Islamabad, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that in today’s cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister has taken the Cabinet into confidence on the issue of FATF. ۔
He said that especially Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Minister of State Hina Rabbani Khar informed the Cabinet that we have met all the requirements for clearance of FATF and now one of its requirements is that F. The ATF team will come to Pakistan and confirm, after which we hope that the way for Pakistan to go from the FATF gray list to the white list will be paved.
He said that after the arrival of FATF team, Pakistan would be free from gray list restrictions and this would be a major step towards enhancing Pakistan’s business environment and meeting international standards.
Ahsan Iqbal said that in today’s cabinet meeting the Prime Minister has issued instructions to ensure supply of urea fertilizer to the farmers in the country and if we have any shortage then we are trying to get urea from friendly countries especially China. If so, instructions have been given to expedite this process so that there is no shortage in the market.
Ahsan Iqbal said that due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, the supply of essential commodities like oil, groceries, oil, coal and gas has been disrupted all over the world and not only Pakistan but also many countries of the world have supply chain at present. We are facing a lot of difficulties to maintain but the government is trying to ensure that we do not use all the resources to create a shortage in the supply chain.
He said that the Federal Cabinet has set up a committee to review the Trade Organization Act of the Ministry of Commerce, which will be convened by the Minister of Commerce and the Minister of Railways, Aviation and Minister of Industries.
Ahsan Iqbal said that the Cabinet has also approved the local and international monopoly program on the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance. Rupees have also been approved and other drugs are expected to be reduced.
The Federal Minister said that the Cabinet has also reviewed the status of GSP Plus Agreement in great detail and the Ministry of Commerce informed the Cabinet that GSP Plus is aimed at promoting bilateral trade between the EU and Pakistan. Very useful because it has increased the trading volume between them after getting the facility.
He said that under GSP Plus, 4 clusters and 27 global conventions have been identified in 9 priority areas of the European Commission, these clusters include human rights, labor rights, climate change and governance and the cabinet has been asked to implement them. The Federal Minister said that the Prime Minister has directed all the Ministries to work for the completion of the agreement for the new phase of GSP Plus.
