The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz for providing 100 units of free electricity in Punjab as a violation of code of conduct.

The Election Commission has issued notice to Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz Sharif on the issue of violation of code of conduct regarding Punjab by-elections and summoned him on July 7 for reply.

The Election Commission has issued notice regarding 100 unit subsidy relief package for power consumers under Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz Sharif’s ‘Roshan Gharana Program’.

According to the spokesperson, according to the code of conduct of the Election Commission, no development scheme can be announced in the constituencies after the announcement of the election schedule.

It may be recalled that the Punjab Chief Minister had announced a relief package a day ago under which free electricity would be provided to households using less than 100 units of electricity.

He had said that the government would pay the out-of-pocket bills of consumers consuming less than 100 units of electricity during the last six months.
