The Lahore High Court declared the arrest of Haleem Adil Sheikh, Leader of the Opposition and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Sindh Assembly, illegal and ordered his immediate release.
The Lahore High Court, while hearing the petition for the recovery of PTI leader and opposition leader Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh, declared his arrest illegal.
The court said in a reserved judgment that anti-corruption had not submitted any arrest warrant and therefore Haleem Adil Sheikh should be released. On the order of the court, the authorities opened the handcuffs of Haleem Adil Sheikh in the court room.
The Lahore High Court also granted security bail to Haleem Adil Sheikh till July 18 in view of the threat of arrest.
Earlier, Justice Ali Baqir Najafi of the Lahore High Court had reserved judgment on a petition seeking the recovery of Sindh Assembly Leader of the Opposition Haleem Adil Sheikh.
Haleem Adil Sheikh, Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was detained by plainclothes personnel and transferred to an unknown location.
During the hearing in the Lahore High Court, Justice Ali Baqir Najafi remarked that we did not find any document to prove the arrest was legal.
During the hearing, the public prosecutor said that a team came from Sindh which arrested Haleem Adil Sheikh. On which the court inquired as to what authority they have for arrest. Show the court a document.
The court further remarked that he was a public representative and should be dealt with in accordance with the law. During the hearing, Justice Ali Baqir Najafi asked PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh if he had anything to say.
Haleem Adil Sheikh said that I arrived here last evening, I keep raising my voice on the issues of Karachi, cases are being registered against me, I want to get bail.
Justice Ali Baqir Najafi asked when do you want to go back to Karachi? Haleem Adil Sheikh replied that he wanted to celebrate Eid with the children.
Later, the court reserved its decision on the application for the recovery of Haleem Adil Sheikh.
