After the approval of President Dr. Arif Alvi, Muhammad Baligh-ul-Haman took oath as Governor of Punjab.
The swearing in ceremony was held at Governor House Lahore where Chief Justice Lahore High Court administered oath to Baligh-ur-Rehman. Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz also attended the function.
Earlier, President Dr. Arif Alvi had approved the appointment of Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman as the Governor of Punjab.
Approval was given by President Arif Alvi on the advice of the Prime Minister under Article 101 (1) of the Constitution. ۔
Earlier, on May 7 this month, on the advice of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the name of Baligh-ur-Rehman, a member of PML-N, was sent to the President for the Governor of Punjab. The summary was rejected.
The President had replied that Omar Sarfraz Cheema is still holding the post of Governor of Punjab. There is no justification for the new appointment. Under Article 101 (2) of the Constitution, Circumstances demand that the incumbent Governor retain his post, and that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif reconsider his advice regarding the appointment of the Governor of Punjab in accordance with Article 48 (1) of the Constitution.
It may be recalled that last month, the previous government had sacked Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and appointed Omar Sarfraz Cheema as its governor. Omar Cheema created many difficulties for the new PML-N government and refused to take oath from Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz.
