Govt directs Nepra to increase electricity price by Rs 11 per unit

The government has asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority to allow an increase in electricity rates of up to Rs 11 per unit for domestic consumers consuming more than 700 units of electricity per month across the country to bear the burden of low consumption consumers. give

According to media reports, the rates approved by the federal government under ‘Tariff Rebasing 23-2022’ for consumers with a monthly consumption slab of 101 to 200 units and above are identical to those set by Nepra a few weeks ago. This is significantly higher than the national average of Rs 7.91 per unit increase.

According to the application written by the power division to Nepra, apart from massive cross-subsidy between different consumer slabs, the government will still provide Rs 234 billion in subsidies, including Rs 220 billion to the erstwhile WAPDA distribution companies and Rs. 14 billion for K-Electric (K-E).
