I am anxious to represent Pakistan again through the series against Sri Lanka: Yasir Shah

Prominent national team spinner Yasir Shah is eager to represent Pakistan again in the series against Sri Lanka next month after returning to the national team after a gap of almost a year.

The 36-year-old league spinner last appeared in the series against the West Indies in August last year, but has now been named in Pakistan’s Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka after recovering from injury and fitness issues.

Speaking on the sidelines of a training camp for the series against Sri Lanka, Yasir Shah said, “I am grateful for the team’s return and I am enjoying training with the team in the nets.”

Yasir has an excellent record against Sri Lanka and in the series against him in 2015, he took 24 wickets and played a key role in Pakistan’s 1-2 victory in the series.

“There is no pressure to return to the team and my eyes are on breaking my own record,” he said.

He was included in the list of reserve players during Australia’s historic tour of Pakistan, but could not make the team due to a thumb injury.

Balochistan won the Pakistan Cup under his leadership and he became the second most successful bowler in the event with 24 wickets.

“Before joining the Pakistan squad, I attended a month-long camp at the National High Performance Center and tried to prepare myself for the conditions in Sri Lanka,” the league spinner said.

“We also have a tour match in Sri Lanka. I am fully prepared and have played a series here, so I am very confident,” he said.

Pakistan will start their tour of Sri Lanka with a three-day match, after which the first Test against the hosts will be played on July 16.
