In a letter issued by the Attorney General late at night, it was said that he clearly agreed with the position presented by Justice Tariq Masood.
He supported the approach presented by Justice Qazi Faiz Isa regarding the proceedings of the meeting and said that ‘I wish this meeting would have ended with amicable and unambiguous results in which Justice Qazi Faiz Isa would complete his remarks. would get a chance’.
In a letter sent to other members of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and the media, Ashtar Usaf Ali wrote that he refrained from commenting on the merits of the names recommended for promotion by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial, however, he Clarified that the name of Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minullah should be considered for promotion to the Supreme Court.
He clarified that his position in the meeting was that the process of rejecting or confirming the names of candidates should be framed according to pre-defined norms and the data of any new candidate should be thoroughly scrutinized.
The Attorney General wrote that ‘this was the main reason why I suggested that the meeting be postponed pending the approval of such criteria’.
He wrote that any appointment to the Supreme Court of Pakistan is a sacred trust vested in the members of the Judicial Commission. Should’.
