President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that under the Constitution, the Governor will remain in office till the approval of the President.
In his reply, the President Dr. Arif Alvi asked the Prime Minister to reconsider his advice regarding the appointment of Governor Punjab. Omar Sarfraz Cheema is still the governor and there is no justification for his new appointment.
He said that under the constitution, the governor would remain in office till the approval of the president and the current situation in the country required the incumbent governor to remain in office. In Punjab, the constitution was violated by illegally gaining a majority.
Dr. Arif Alvi said that illegal measures have created serious problems in governance in Punjab and the decision of the Supreme Court on the presidential reference confirmed the principled position of the Governor.
He said that the May 20 decision of the Election Commission further strengthened the position of the Governor of Punjab while the Election Commission confirmed the deviation of 25 members of the Provincial Assembly and change of allegiances.
