Joint session of Parliament adjourned till August 22

Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf has postponed the joint session of the Parliament to be held on Wednesday, July 20 due to unknown reasons.

According to media reports, according to the official announcement of the National Assembly Secretariat, the joint session will now be held on August 22.

According to the circular, using the powers conferred by Rule 4 of the Rules, 1973, the Speaker convened a joint session of Parliament on 22 August 2022 instead of 20 July 2022 at 4 pm. Earlier, the last joint session of Parliament was held on 9 June. In which President Dr. Arif Alvi refused to approve electoral reforms and accountability laws despite approval from the National Assembly and the Senate, the government succeeded in getting both the ‘controversial’ laws approved.

Amendments to the Elections Act 2017 were aimed at banning the use of electronic voting machines in the upcoming general elections and amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (Amendment) Act were aimed at preventing misuse of the law for political engineering and targeting of political opponents.
