K Electric’s request to increase electricity rates

K Electric (KE) has applied for an increase of about Rs. 4, 86 paise per unit under monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) and Rs. 4, 52 paise per unit under quarterly tariff adjustment (QTA). About Rs 27 billion additional revenue will be collected from consumers in terms of billing next month.

In its two separate applications to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), K Electric has demanded FCA of Rs4.86 per unit for electricity used in April with a revenue estimate of Rs9.353 billion.

K Electric said the increase was due to higher tariffs on the national grid and the cost of furnace oil for its own power generation.
