NEPRA approves increase in power tariff

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase in the price of electricity by Rs3.99 per unit. As a result, consumers will have to bear an additional burden of over Rs. 51 billion. The decision will apply to all electricity distribution companies except Electric.

A hearing was held in NEPRA on the request to increase the price of electricity by Rs 4.5 per unit. Applying for the April fuel price adjustment, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) said that 12.55 billion units of electricity was generated last month at a total cost of Rs. 133 billion. Electricity was generated at Rs. 28 per unit, LNG at Rs. 16 and coal at Rs. 14 per unit. Power loss was Rs. 31 per unit. NEPRA requested to increase the price of electricity by Rs.

NEPRA Sindh member Rafiq Sheikh said that 33 gas power plants are at the top of the merit order, but when gas has not been available for two and a half years, why are they at the top. NEPRA directed to correct the list of merit orders.
