Order to stop the election process of the Prime Minister

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court annulled the proceedings of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for the new Leader of the House and ordered to suspend the proceedings of the new Leader of the House till Monday.

Following the resignation of Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, the Speaker Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today announced the election of a new Leader of the House, after which the Assembly Secretariat also announced the schedule for the election of a new Leader of the House.

The United Opposition had approached the High Court against the decision of the Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and sought immediate annulment of today’s proceedings, calling the Speaker’s action against the Assembly Rules.

A two-member bench of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court, after hearing the arguments of the lawyers of the united opposition, declared the proceedings of the Speaker’s Assembly null and void.

The court in its judgment ordered to suspend the process for election of new Leader of the House of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly till Monday.

Former Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider said that there is no doubt that the proceedings of the Assembly cannot be taken to court but the court can interpret the constitution and give decisions on the steps taken against the constitution.

President PPP Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Yasin said that they respect the decision of the court and were happy with the decision.
