Prime Minister’s directive to provide five basic food items at low prices at utility stores

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed to provide five basic food items at low prices at utility stores to provide relief to the people.

A high level meeting on utility stores was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in which Federal Ministers Muftah Ismail, Makhdoom Murtaza Mahmood and concerned senior officials participated.

The meeting was briefed on the progress made on subsidy on utility stores, targeted subsidy to the backward classes, expansion of number of utility stores across the country and provision of cheap flour under the Prime Minister’s vision in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. went.

The meeting was informed that the Utility Store Corporation is currently operating 3822 direct and 1380 franchises in the country while by July 30, more than 300 new stores will be set up in Balochistan, Sindh, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab.

The meeting was informed that under the relief package of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, 113 million deserving persons have so far benefited from Rs 60 per kg on flour, Rs 21 on sugar, Rs 250 on ghee and Rs 15 on pulses and rice. A targeted subsidy of Rs. 20 has been given. The subsidy mechanism is digital while NADRA and the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation are linked to the data.

The meeting was further informed that supply of cheap flour was being ensured at 942 utility stores in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while 1000 new cell points and 200 mobile stores were being added on the special directive of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has prepared a big relief plan for the poor and backward classes under which it has been decided in principle to provide 5 basic necessities at low rates for the next financial year.

Sources said that the aforesaid subsidy would be provided to the poor and backward classes across the country through utility stores. Prices will be provided to the public.

Approving the expansion of the network of utility stores, Shahbaz Sharif said that the small number of utility stores in Karachi was not acceptable at all.

He said that a comprehensive plan to increase the number of utility stores in Karachi should be presented in two weeks.

The Prime Minister said that the backward classes were in dire need of relief at this time and the government was ready to spend anything for the relief of the backward classes as relief to the backward classes was the top priority of the government.

Shahbaz Sharif directed that the system of subsidy should be made transparent and digital, a comprehensive system should be made by collecting different types of subsidies and relief of the backward class should be given priority under the system.

He directed the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Industry and Production and the Minister for Poverty Alleviation to formulate a joint strategy for reforming the subsidy system.
