Russia did not offer cheap oil and wheat: Muftah Ismail

Russia did not offer cheap oil and wheat Muftah Ismail

Finance Minister Muftah Ismail says Russia has not offered a 30 percent discount on oil and wheat.

Muftah Ismail denied the former government’s claim. Russia did not offer any concessions on oil and wheat, he told an international news channel. Sanctions will make it difficult to buy oil from Russia.

The previous government had approached Russia for oil. Russia has not responded to the sanctions. If Russia offers us and there are no sanctions on Pakistan then we can consider it.

We have contacted Ukraine and Russia for wheat. We will buy wheat from either country.

He said the IMF was looking at the budget, after which an agreement was expected. The budget is likely to withdraw subsidies and increase taxes. Imran Khan had announced subsidies to trap us.

Both the former PML-N prime ministers were of the view that we should hold immediate elections. We had to decide not to hold elections to expand the IMF program. First we will stabilize the economy and then we will go for elections.
