The Prime Minister has said that load shedding will not be tolerated for more than 3 hours: Qamar Zaman Kaira

Kashmir Affairs Adviser Qamar Zaman Kaira expressed hope that the load shedding would be reduced by the end of this week and said that the Prime Minister had made it clear that load shedding would not be tolerated for more than three hours.

Addressing a press conference with Federal Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and Musaddiq Malik in Islamabad, Maryam Aurangzeb said that a detailed briefing on load shedding was given in the meeting of the Federal Cabinet and full details were given to the Cabinet on the agenda related to Power Division. It is reported that at present the country’s power generation capacity is 23,000 MW which was accumulated in the month of June and in the same month the demand for electricity went up to 30,000 MW which is a historic demand.

He said that on the suggestion of the Finance Ministry, the Federal Cabinet had approved the selection of Hussain and Company for the audit of the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for the financial year.

He said that we also know that the country has a generating capacity of 23,900 MW of electricity, out of which 11,600 MW was generated during the rule of PML-N from 2013 to 2018 which is the current Half of the production capacity.

He said that over the last four years, there have been rumors that more power projects have been signed and more power has been brought into the system.

He said that the issues of the Cabinet Committee on Legislation were also discussed in the agenda of the Cabinet. K Finance Rules, Service Rules have been approved, and Publications of Laws of Pakistan Amendment Bill 2022 and National Accountability Bureau Bill 2022 have also been approved.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that the decisions of the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization held on June 24, 2022 have also been approved and a task force will be constituted on its legal framework for G2G commercial transactions. It will be headed by Khawaja Asif and will include a detailed review of all G2G commercial transactions.

He said that rehabilitation of Pakistan Steel Mills would also be discussed and besides this there are 3 other decisions including one hotel, its privatization is also being considered.

The Federal Minister said that the agenda of removing the names of 5 people from ECL was also reviewed in detail by the Home Ministry and it was approved.

Speaking on the occasion, Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the issue of electricity was discussed in detail in the cabinet meeting today. ۔

Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the prices of petroleum products have also gone up in the country due to which people are facing severe hardships and before coming to power we knew that making some decisions would definitely have its effects.

“We did not know that oil prices would rise in the world market, and we did not know that the protracted war between Russia and Ukraine would increase gas prices,” he said. Difficulties have increased.

He said that the catastrophe was due to the incompetence and incompetence of the previous government.

The Federal Minister said that there are some old power plants of 1500 MW in Pakistan, which generate electricity at Rs. 60 per unit and when oil prices go up, it goes up further. Running them is a criminal act.

“Even if 1,500 megawatts are added, which generate expensive electricity, we may have up to 25,000 megawatts today, but in reality we have about 24,000 megawatts,” he said.

He said that in areas where there is prolonged load shedding, there is also the tragedy of power theft, the cost of which has to be paid by the bill payers and the government has paid Rs 10,072 billion to WAPDA this year. Despite this, the revolving debt of Rs. 283 billion has increased which is not in our power but we are also putting this before the nation.

He said that power plants could not be set up suddenly and power could not be generated suddenly but power plants were increased as required but 4 years of Imran Khan’s rule. Demonstrating criminal negligence, the power plants were not augmented and the projects that were to be completed were not completed due to their negligence. If they had been completed, there would not have been so much load shedding today.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said that Punjab Thermal Factory was delayed for 26 months which is 1263 MW and similarly Pakistan’s own coal-fired power Thar energy project was also delayed for 17 months and Nova Power and The 1,300-megawatt Shanghai project was also delayed by 20 months.

He said that now that the flow of water in the rivers has improved, it is hoped that by the end of this week, about 2,000 MW of cheap electricity will come into the system which will reduce the load shedding.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the Prime Minister has said to do anything but load shedding for more than 3 hours will not be tolerated now.

He said that it has been decided today that no such project will be launched in Pakistan which will use oil imported from abroad and plants will be set up on the basis of local oil.
