The process of making Gilgit-Baltistan a transitional province has entered its final stage, while the process of consultation among stakeholders on the formation of a transitional province has been completed.
Gilgit-Baltistan will get three generals and one reserved seat in the National Assembly after becoming a province. Seven seats in the Senate have been agreed upon. Wheat subsidies and tax exemptions will remain in place.
The announcement of the formation of the province by the federation is expected soon. The bill for the formation of the interim province will be presented in the GB Assembly and National Assembly soon. Both houses have also agreed to support the bill.
Gilgit-Baltistan government and opposition parties have agreed to dissolve the assembly and government ahead of time to form an interim province. In this regard, a formal agreement has been reached that the next elections in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held in 2023 along with other provinces As a result, the term of the current assembly will be only two and a half years, and the GB Council will also come to an end.
The Federal Government has finalized a formal bill to amend the Constitution of Pakistan regarding the formation of Gilgit-Baltistan Interim Province. The jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan will be extended to Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Election Commission will be abolished but one of its members will be made a member of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
