The first rain of summer with wind in Karachi made the weather pleasant and the heat wave subsided.
After a day of intense heat in Karachi, heavy rains along with strong winds started in the northern areas which spread to the entire city while several power feeders tripped in different areas.
Areas that received post-storm rainfall include Bahria Town, Super Highway, Gadap, Malir, Airport, Shara Faisal, Nursery, Korangi and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Similarly, due to heavy rains in and around Malir, water accumulated in low lying areas.
It may be recalled that on June 19, the Meteorological Department had indicated that a series of torrential rains across the country would begin on Monday, June 20, due to the entry of strong systems from the upper and central regions.
The Meteorological Department had said that Karachi as well as Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jakabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Lasbela and Khasdar will experience heavy rains from Tuesday to Wednesday evening. Chance of rain.
In a statement issued on the recent rains in Karachi, Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that officers of all local bodies have been directed to monitor the rain water.
He said that wherever there is a possibility of accumulation of water, the staff should reach there and ensure drainage of water.
He said that all the machinery and staff were at work and conditions were good.
Syed Nasir Hussain Shah issued instructions to ensure flow of traffic along with drainage on major highways.
He said that he was supervising all the works himself and would go on a tour of the city.
