ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a written order for delimitation of constituencies in Islamabad for local body elections in 65 days.
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a written decision approving the petition of Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. The written order said that the Election Commission is expected to delimit 101 union councils in 65 days.
The decision said the federal government and all agencies are expected to co-operate with the Election Commission. If there is no cooperation from the Election Commission, the Commission may request reopening of the case.
The order said that according to the Election Commission, the federal government was repeatedly obstructing the elections by changing the rules. The federal cabinet approved to increase the number of union councils to 101. Gazette notification of the cabinet decision has been published. The election schedule was to be issued only after implementing the decision.
According to the decision, the Election Commission has agreed on the delimitation of 101 Union Councils. The Election Commission also said that the delimitation has taken place three times in Islamabad. According to the Election Commission, it was bound to hold new elections within 120 days. The Election Commission requested that the Federal Government be directed to co-operate for the local body elections.
